ZIRKUSGASSE HIGH SCHOOL
The listed school building is brought back to life through subtle but precise interventions. The outside courtyard is transformed into a multi-storey communicative atrium space with a glass roof. Several balconies are added into the void space as new recreation areas. The once-gloomy ground floor has been turned into a light-flooded entrance hall, forming the new beating heart of the building.
The essential measures of this process of conversion and construction consist of: a reawakening of the spirit of the original building; attic conversion of the auditorium wing; the development of a subterranean sports hall; a new two-storey extension building; and the creation of an attractive outside space.
