Competition Hotel Kummer (3rd Prize, Vienna, 2013)

For this renovation it was decided that a kind of gutting process should be employed, in order to convert the extremely impractical and complicated split-level interior into a structure with uniform storey-height, thereby ensuring total accessibility across every floor of the building. Each floor is accessible only by a central lift situated at the core of the building, allowing for absolute ease of orientation. The new roof structure, with its use of concave forms, is employed as an elegant new interpretation of the over-inflated Baroque style of sweeping concave and convex outlines. The dormer windows take up a barely perceptible amount of space when seen from below, thereby casting minimal shadow on to the street and surrounding buildings, with the further advantage of different axes of view being offered from within the room
